Interview conducted by Jessie L. Embry as part of the LDS Afro-American Oral History Project by the Charles Redd Center for Western Studies at Brigham Young University on 9 September 1991. Waterman served a mission to Newark, New Jersey where he worked with African Americans. He had just returned from his mission when he was interviewed. He talked about his experiences working with black Americans and their attitudes toward the Mormon Church. He described the experiences of LDS African Americans in an inner-city branch. He suggested the future of black Americans in the Mormon Church.
